Komeito (公明党, Kōmeitō), formerly New Komeito (abbreviated NKP), is a centre to centre-right conservative political party in Japan founded by lay members of the new religious movement Soka Gakkai. Komeito became a partner of the current coalition government in 2012. As of July 2019, Natsuo Yamaguchi is the president of NKP and currently serves as a member of the House of Councillors in the National Diet, the Japanese national legislature.
