The national anthem of Norway is called "Ja, vi elsker dette landet", which translates to "Yes, we love this country" in English. The anthem was written by Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson and composed by Rikard Nordraak in the mid-19th century, during a time when Norway was struggling for independence from Sweden.

The anthem's lyrics express love and pride for Norway, its natural beauty, and its people. The chorus of the anthem is as follows:

"Ja, vi elsker dette landet,
Som det stiger frem,
Furet, værbitt over vannet,
Med de tusen hjem."

Translated into English, the chorus means:

"Yes, we love this country,
As it rises forth,
Rugged, weathered, over the water,
With its thousands of homes."

The anthem is typically played at important state occasions, such as the National Day (May 17th) and royal events. It is also frequently played at sporting events and is sung by Norwegian athletes when they win international competitions.
